Today there's a trend toward Supplier-Managed inventories. The conventional inventory model is that the distributor (i.e. one of our customers) monitors his own inventory levels, placing orders with the manufacturer as needed. With the supplier-managed inventory approach, Advantage (the manufacturer) is responsible for creating and managing the inventory plan. Under this plan, Advantage electronically monitors the customer's inventories and sales, producing and shipping product as needed.
